Shanghai Association of Refrigerated Warehouses(SARW) was established in 1987 and with the approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it became member of International Association of Refrigerated Warehouses (IARW) and World Food and Logistics Organization(WFLO) in 1995 (now the organization has been changed to Global Cold Chain Alliance, (GCCA) which is consisted of International Association of Refrigerated Warehouses (IARW), World Food and Logistics Organization(WFLO), International Refrigerated Transport Association (IRTA) and International Association of Cold Storage Construction (IACSC).

SARW organized two seminars on Improving Perishable Food Distribution in Shanghai in 2004 and 2005 in collaboration with USDA and IARW, WFLO.

SARW also attended the annual meetings of IARW and WFLO many times in U.S. and in 2007, it signed an agreement with IARW, WFLO and IRTA to set up their liaison office in Shanghai.

Now SARW has over 100 members, which are in the sectors of industry, agriculture, commerce and international trade in Shanghai. It also has members in Jiangsu Province, Zhejiang Province, Hubei Province, Guangdong Province and Guangxi Province. These member companies covers all the cold chain related companies such as food processing factories, frozen and refrigerated storage companies, refrigerated transport and logistics companies.

SARW will serve as a bridge between the government and the industry and will actively make contributions to the development of the food cold chain and logistics in Shanghai and Yangtze River Delta Area.

SARW also provide services like business introduction, job training, business management and project engineering consultation etc
